Ten years ago, most Ugandan teens had never heard of skateboarding. Enter Jack Mubiro, an avid skater and Ugandan, who convinced his mother to donate a piece of property in Kampala on which he built Uganda’s first skatepark. Now the Uganda Skateboard Union has a membership upwards of fifty people and overseas skate companies send over boards to support the growing east Africa skate scene!

It’s usually forbidden to do anything in front of government buildings, but because some Ugandans have never seen the sport, guards sometimes allow it out of curiosity.
